Nursing homes offer accommodation, meals and a level of personal care, but differ from residential homes, in that they usually offer some form of specialist professional nursing care, sometimes specialising in dementia care. Nursing Homes often charge higher fees, to cover the cost of employing highly skilled and qualified professionals, however, often some of the cost will be met by the National Health Service. The minimum age for admission is usually 65.

When you are considering a nursing home or care home, check that it is registered with the Local Authority and Health Authority. Ensure that the home has been visited recently by the Local Authority Inspection Team, and ask to read the Inspection report.
